Range Hoods in Camouflage

Faber Iconic Vent

Range Hoods in Camouflage

We are all familiar with  the  large range hoods that mount against the wall and end up becoming a decorative focal point and the functional microwave vent hood that gets the microwave off the counter, but sometimes you just want the hood to go away.

When the range is mounted on an island, the view is often blocked by a hood hovering above. Here are some ideas that change that scenario.

How about a flush ceiling mounted hood? This hood has to be larger and pulls more air than a hood would normally because of the distance between it and the range top. This hood may involve adding a home ventilation system if one is not already installed.

Several companies provide this item. This one is from the Italian company Futuo

Here is another version of the “in ceiling vent”. This one is mounted in a soffit that hangs down over the range top which kind of defeats the purpose of making it unobtrusive.

This particular one is from Faber.

While we are on the subject, why not a sleek, only partially obtrusive vent. This one is from the Italian company Falmec and is their Lumen model. Would look great in a contemporary or mid-century modern home.

How about a vent system that is a work of art?

This is a vent system for a range top that camouflages as a decorative light when not in use. This vent only activates when it is lowered. This is from Faber, an Italian company who comes out with interesting products. (Why are all the companies Italian?) I have not seen this product sold in the US as of this time, but I have hopes it will be here soon.

The only drawback on this system is that it is a recirculating hood meaning it does not vent to the outside, but it sure looks good.

There are options out there. You don’t have to settle for what you can get off the shelf at the big box store.
